About

Alain Selmi

I’m a software engineer with a strong interest in business and entrepreneurship. I grew up in Korba, Nabeul, Tunisia. I had the chance to move to Austria a few years ago. Since then, I have been living in the beautiful city of Vienna. I consider myself a curious and humble person who enjoys being surrounded by people. Because life is complex enough, I value minimalism and simplicity in all aspects of life. Family and sports are my priorities—They come first, and everything else follows.

I owe much of my professional journey to my father. At a young age, he brought home a computer for my brother and me—an IBM Aptiva running Windows 95. At the time, hardly anyone around us owned a computer. That moment sparked my fascination with technology and ignited a lifelong passion for understanding how computers work and how they can be used to create value.

Driven by curiosity and a desire to step outside my comfort zone, I set my sights on building an international career. Shortly before completing my computer science engineering degree at FST, I relocated to Vienna and joined Nomad as a software developer—an experience that marked the beginning of my professional life abroad.

Over the five years that followed, I took an active role in building Nomad, gaining hands-on experience across multiple domains. My work spanned software development, Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and customer-facing activities including on-site installations and product demonstrations. This period shaped my technical foundation while giving me a strong understanding of how technology, business, and people come together.

Curious about entrepreneurship, I later decided to explore self-employment. I participated in a startup founding program promoted by the City of Vienna and experimented with several business ideas, ranging from olive oil trading to blockchain-based concepts. At the same time, I joined Willhaben as a Master of Flow (Release Manager), where I further strengthened my DevOps and software delivery expertise. This phase challenged me to refine my German language skills and fully integrate into a new professional and cultural environment.

During the COVID-19 period, I joined Hutchison Drei Austria, where I am contributing to shaping how a leading Austrian telecommunication company delivers software. Meanwhile, I embarked on a new learning journey by pursuing a part-time Master's degree in Executive Management at the University of Applied Science of Vienna. Today, I work as a Continuous Delivery expert, continuously sharpening my DevOps skills while pursuing my long-term goal of building a successful business and invest in my home country.

I am currently developing Sanovias, a medical tourism platform designed to connect patients with trusted doctors abroad—bringing together technology, entrepreneurship, and meaningful impact. Stay tuned for updates as I continue this exciting journey!
